<The eight most admirable scenes of Anyang >has been selected in June 2003 to represent Anyang by public subscription of citizens and the 'Selection Committee of the eight most admirable scenes of Anyang', which is grouped with specialists and professors, photographers of tourism, buildings and environment fields through five field surveys and entire staff meetings.

The first admirable scene: Kwanak mountain Manghae Hermitage sunset

  • The meaning of Manghae hermitage is that watching the sea is possible from a small temple. Its excellent scenery while appreciating urban district and sunset of the west sea on a clear day at the Manhae hermitage of Kwanak mountain is almost like watching a piece of drawing.
  • The place creates a beautiful ebb tide and quite stillness while the hot red sun slowly vanishes away. Viewing the Anyang city after darkness falls and sunsets is an exquisite experience available only at Manhae hermitage.

The second admirable scene: Phallic stones, Sammak-sa or temple

  • These are two natural weathered stones whose forms resemble respectively the male and female genitals. The distance between the genitals is 2m and the male's stands 1.5m high while the female's is 1.1m.
  • According to the old record, the stones were worshiped subjected for tosok faith (Korean tradition) even before Wonhyo Deasa, who was a Mayahana scholar during the King Munmu of Silla 17 year (677) built the Sammak-sa.
  • Believing that it possesses mysterious power to deliver smooth childbirth, prosperity, good health and longevity, people from all over the country lay the table of candles and fruits and offer a devout prayer in front of the stones on Chopail (the eighth day of the fourth month) and the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar.

The third admirable scene: Pyongchon Centeral Park

  • There are all kinds of flowers and trees like pine trees and gingko trees decorating the park along with great looking sculptures. It is also equipped with sports facilities like a tennis court and a soccer field as well as water fountain and food parlor, holding various events in the open-air stage. There is a basketball court and a inline skating rink in the nearby Migwan square and on weekends, the park holds fleet market by prohibiting cars from passing through. In addition, the park is used as a sports space for there are culture spaces and a bicycling road for families, couples and the inline buffers.

The fourth admirable scene: Sammakcheon Manan Bridge

  • This bridge was made in 1795 to facilitate the royal processions of king Jeong-jo (r. 1776~1800) who was devoted son and the 22nd king of Joseon to the grave of his father by Sado-seja or the Sado prince. The bridge is one of the renowned Arch Bridges. The king Jeong-jo exhume and bury the tomb of Sado-seja from Yangju to Hwasan and pay frequent reverence to console his father's malignant spirit.
  • The original worship parade was suppose pass through Norangjin, Gwacheon and Suwon starting from the palace but because there was the tomb of Yakro , brother of Kam Sang-Ro who aggressively participated in punishing Sado-seja on the road side, the parade changed its path due to inauspicious to Siheung and pass through Anyang River.

The fifth admirable scene: The Suri Mountain Holy Place of Choi Kyung-Hwan

  • Choi Kyung-Hwan (Francisco 1805~1839) is father of Choi Yang-Eup (Thomas 1821~1861) who was the second father ever in Korea.
  • While propagating Catholic faith with his wife Lee Sung-Rae (Maria 1800~1840) at Dambae-chon (Anyang 9-dong) by establishing Gyou-chon (Fellowship village), there was oppression on Catholicism in 1839. He traveled back and forth from Han yang (then Seoul), toook care of martyrdoms' corpses, comfort and encouraged emotionally disturbed fellow believers. In July 31st the same year, he was punished by the Pojol (Police) from Seoul and martyred. He was raised as a saint in May 6, 1984 by the Pope 2 nd

The sixth admirable scene: Anyang Art Park

  • It received the limelight as a resort of the Metropolitan area by harmonizing culture properties. Traditional temples of surroundings and its clean water flowing from the valley between the Kwanak Mountain and Samsung Mountain. In addition, the park's famous grapes used to stir up visitors' appetite as well.
  • There is a nicely organized mountain climbing course between the luxuriant forest of Samsungcheon valleys, which is loved by the citizens even today. There are many traditional temples like Anyangsa (Temple) and the Yumbul Hermitage and the national treasure No. 4 Banner pole supporting posts of Joongcho site temple including Maae-jong or a bell engraved on rock, Suksu-dong(Tangible Cultural Properties No.92 of Kyunggi province), Tortoise-shaped base of Anyang-sa oo temple (Tangible Cultural Properties No.93 of Kyunggi province) and Joongcho site temple three-storied stone pagoda (Tangible Cultural Properties No.164 of Kyunggi province).

The seventh admirable scene: Byungmokan forest aromatic bath main stone pagodas

  • No1,2 and 3 observatory decks established by the city offer different views respectively; making the mountain climbing ever more enjoyable.  Particularly, the wood observation tech of No1 and 2 observatory decks offer foot-pressuring place for the citizens' well-being, 25m long Choorung bridge and a camping school. There are about 10 spring water location including the Bakyong spring water providing clean water to our citizens.
  • A bottle-shape stone pagodas, which is a symbolic bottle representing Byungmokan village and the Suri mountain! The bottle-shape pagodas that are nicely organized in both sides are a notable place of the Suri mountain Forest Aromatic Bath and they are made of a pile of stones that are useless which represents artificial aesthetic and natural harmony. The place serves as a place to meet people.

The eighth admirable scene: Anyang first street

  • Upon opening of the Gyeongbu line in 1905, the Anyang Station was established and it gradually became the busiest quarters, the hub of the city. In 1990, many clothing stores for young generation have opened up their shops. The street acquired commercial supremacy and has been raised to the business quarters in the Metropolitan area as a street that harmonized computers, telecommunication, cinema, shopping and culture after 2000.
  • It acquired its name 'Anyang first street' as a symbolic meaning that quicken the development of the region such as finance and transportation. From 1996, there are street culture festivals under the slogan 'Youthful city, Anyang Street of fashion' on every October providing many things to watch and experiencing spaces for the citizens.
