The origin of "Anyang"

- The name Anyang is originated from Anyang temple-established by Wang-Geon, the First Emperor of Goryeo dynasty.
- In the fourth year of Hyogong- king of Silla (900), the descendents of Gung Ye, Wang-Geon was passing through the Samsung Mountain to discipline Gumju (Siheung) and Gwaju (Gwacheon) areas. At the time, the clouds of the mountaintop were forming coloration in five different colors and people were observing the oddity.
- The troop met an old Buddhist priest name Neungjung under the clouds and when listening the detail story, the priest had a same idea as Wang-Geon thus built the Anyang temple at the current location (The whole area of Manan-gu Suksu 1-dong San 2-bunji).
- The name Anyanag came into existence thanks to the Anyang temple. We guess that the king Jung Jo of Chosun dynasty built Manan bridge, which was built for his father, prince Sado for his Neung trip. The'An' and 'yang' of Anyang and the 'yang' seem to be chosen to teach future generations about obedience to parent, which is the basis of moral. Also, as Siheung-gun Suhyi-myun has been renamed to Anyang-myun in 1941, Anyang implicates a land of happiness that relaxes one's mind and body in Buddhism and a cozy and unrestricted Utopia that is full of joy and peace.
